Maiden mittens

Temperatures are dropping below zero at night.
Totally not comparable to the situation in the US but.... it is cold for Dutch understandings!

Especially little ones get cold hands during this temperature.
So I decided to make a pair of mittens this sunday.

I wanted to make a pair of simple mittens which I could decorate with a little flower.
I used a button as a little extra detail.

I noticed that good patterns for mittens are quite a search. But I managed to find a perfect pattern! Which I will share with you ofcourse.

I added some extra strenght to the part between the thumb and the hand. Just by sewing a thread through some stitches.

It does help because now the part is totally closed and you don't even notice it.

The mittens come in 3 sizes: Preschool / Older kids / Women - Men
The design is made by Brenda Anderson, you can find the patttern over HERE.
Trust me, this is one of the nicest mitten patterns.

The yarn I used is a baby wool. very soft and perfect for little children (or grown ups) who don't like the prickly effect of wool but do enjoy the warmth.

    Sorbet Swirl Cowl V2.0

Just wanted to share some pictures with you of a crochet scarf I finished today.

For me, again, this yarn does the trick.
The colours blend in such a nice way. The cowls come alive.

I added a rim to this one. Where my original crochet pattern for the Sorbet Swirl Cowl V 1.0 has an edge of the same yarn, this one has an edge that stands out.
I added it on special request, It makes the cowl a bit more sporty.

I used Haaksel - Ice Yarns. To find out more about the yarn, click on the image below.

    Candy hat

Time for a new hat! I found a lovely crochet pattern to make a sweet winter crochet hat.

This crochet hat is very easy to make. It has a funny puckered top.
I added some extra length to the rim so you can fold it back or wear the hat a bit slouchy.

I made a hat size toddler / preschooler
    Pattern:

    1) Magic Ring, 9 HDC in ring, join, CH1 (9HDC)

    2) 2 HDC in each stitch, join, CH1 (18HDC)

    3) 2 HDC in each stitch, join, CH1 (36 HDC)

    4) (2HDC in 1st stitch, HDC in next) Repeat to end, join, CH1 (54 HDC)

Only in round 5, work last stitch in the join stitch (slip stitch) of the previous round.

    5) HDC in each stitch, join, CH1 (54 HDC)

    6) 4 HDC, (2 HDC in next, 8 HDC) repeat between brackets till 4 HDC remain, HDC to end, join, CH1 (60 HDC)

7 / 17) (SC, 2 DC) in 1st stitch * skip 2 stitches, (SC, 2 DC) in next *  repeat to end, skip last 2 stitches, join, CH1 (60 stitches)

    18) SC around, join, CH1 (60 ST)

(From here I altered the original pattern!!)

19 / 21) SC around using Back Loops only, join, CH1 (60 ST)

    22) Work your last round in Reversed Stitches. Instead of from right to left you work from left to right. Backwards over your last row.

The yarn I used is made especially to make nice, warm hats.
They come with a nice pom-pom included.
Love it? You can find more hat yarns in my Yarn Store "Haaksels - Ice Yarn".

    Chocolate V Puff

Another V-Puff scarf, another colleague of mine ordered one. She told me it had to match her brown jacket / coat.

The different types of yarn turn this scarf into a warm picture.
Like warm Choco on a cold winters day.

When you use thick and thin yarns combined. You can achieve the same width by pulling up 2 loops on the V-arm with thick yarn and pull up 3 loops on every V-arm for the thinner yarn.
That way your V's will appear at the same thickness.
For example, the beige colour is 2 loops, the rusty colour is 3 loops.

If you haven't made one for yourself or a friend, check out the free pattern from a former blog:
Here is the link to the V-Puff scarf pattern

In this scarf I used the Ice Yarns Mirage again. It was a left over from my Lace crochet shawl.
It is such a soft and rich yarn. Ideal for scarfs.
You can get them in a single colour, but also as a self-striping colour, which saves you the hassle of switching in between colours.
